Backflow Prevention
The City of York, by Ordinance, has a comprehensive Backflow Prevention Program. It requires the ongoing participation of all customers to help protect the public water supply from unwanted substances coming from the faucet.
Customers are contacted every five years to do an inspection of their property and fill out a survey form to make sure there is no possible cross-connection that could cause a problem should a backflow situation occur. Customers with lawn sprinkler systems or heating boilers have testable devices in place to protect the public water system. These customers are contacted when it is time to have these devices tested.
Customers are encouraged to contact the Public Works department should they have any questions or concerns regarding this program at 402-363-2600.
