Youth Programs

Youth programs are for all ages and are designed to interest all the community's kids!  Together we can help build the future of America.  Youth programs will be added monthly and ideas/suggestions are always welcome.  Feel free to contact the Community Center at 363-2630 or email:  cfolts@cityofyork.net or mstuhr@cityofyork.net for more information about each program.

Rookie All-Stars

Get a jump start on becoming an All-Star.  This program will focus on a different sport each week, teaching the fundamentals and increasing the awareness of each sport for the kids.  The program is set up to have the first hour focused on the fundamentals and the last 30 minutes on playing the game.

Parents Night Out

Make your favorite Tie-Dye clothing with YPR!  Bring a white piece of clothing and we’ll tie-dye it into a beautiful piece of wearable artwork!

Central Nebraska Track Meet

This meet will be available at no cost for boys and girls ages 8-13 years old as of December 31, 2019.  The local meet will be at the York High School Track on May 10th starting at 4pm.  There will be an athlete check in at 3:30pm.  Athletes have the choice of competing in two field events and one running event or two running events and one field event; relays do not count towards a running event. First – Fourth place in each event will be invited to the Central Nebraska Youth Track and Field Championship Meet in North Platte on June 8th.  Also, we will be offering 50, 100, 200, 400 meter runs and 4x100 meter relay options in preparation for the Special Olympics! Participants must be born before September 30, 2011 to participate in the Special Olympic events.   Registration forms for the track meet can be found at the Community Center, or online at www.cityofyork.net.

T-Ball

This introduction to baseball/softball is designed for boys and girls who are 5-7 years old by August 1, 2019.  Players will learn and practice the basic fundamentals in a fun, energetic and organized atmosphere.  They will also develop teamwork skills and learn how to be a team player.

When:  Games: Tuesdays and Thursdays in June

            Practices: Starting the week of May 6

Time: Evenings TBA depending on number of teams; no earlier than 5:30pm.

Ages:  5-7 year olds as of August 1, 2019

Where:  York Ballpark Complex & Miller Park

Fee:  $30.00 includes a jersey

*Coaches are always needed to make T-Ball a success.  If you are interested in becoming a coach please contact the Community Center at 402-363-2630.  There will be a coaches meeting April 29th, at 5:45pm at the Community Center in the meeting room.

These games are sure to spark some friendly competition as we learn about teamwork. On Monday we’ll start the competition by watching Cars. These rockets can then be entered in the 4-H rocket classification in the York County Fair. On Monday we will watch    Wall-E and on Friday we will cool down at the Family Aquatic Center

Archery Camp

Join YPR and the 4-H Extension office as we team up for a fun-filled week of learning all about archery! We will start with the basics and introduce safety topics before participants get to shoot. Then we will wrap up the week at Recharge Lake’s Upper Big Blue Outdoor Archery Range. Bows and arrows will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own if you have it. See you all out on the range!

Float for Life

This is a class designed for young kids to learn how to survival float if they were to ever fall into the water and no one else is around. Our trained staff will teach every child to know how to self-rescue. This class is FREE to whoever wants to participate! Session 3 will be in July.

Progressive Ag Safety Day

Progressive Ag Safety Day is an event where youth will learn about safety on a farm as well as home. All sessions are hands on and some of the topics included this year will be: lawn mower safety, PTO safety, gun safety, animal safety, train safety, chemical safety, proper hand-washing and they will get to make and take home their own first-aid kit. Each participant will receive a t-shirt, snack, and lunch. To register, a permission form must be filled out. Forms can be found online at york.unl.edu or can be picked up a the York County Extension Office or the York Community Center.

Ready, Set, Rally

Ready, Set, Rally is a 10 and under tennis league that teaches the fundamentals of tennis at a pace where the kids will develop a passion for the game.  It makes tennis extra fun with the use of age appropriate racquets, balls and court size.  Everything is slowed down and sized down which makes the game easier and exciting for the kids to learn.

When: July 15-18

Artistic Me!

Let your artistic juices flow!  Become an artist using clay, markers, foam, stickers, paint, crayons, cardboard and much more! Then, once we’ve created master pieces, the Parks and Recreation will have a spot saved at the fair to have your work on display!  Come and show off your artwork!
