Youth Programs

Youth programs are for all ages and are designed to interest all the community's kids!  Together we can help build the future of America.  Youth programs will be added monthly and ideas/suggestions are always welcome.  Feel free to contact the Community Center at 363-2630 or email:  cfolts@cityofyork.net or mstuhr@cityofyork.net for more information about each program.

T-Ball

This introduction to baseball/softball is designed for boys and girls who are 5-7 years old by August 1, 2020. Players will learn and practice the basic fundamentals in a fun, energetic, and organized atmosphere. They will also develop teamwork skills and learn how to be a team player.

When: Practices: Starting mid/late June

            Games: Tuesdays & Thursdays in July (2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28)

Time: Evenings TBA depending on number of teams, no earlier than 5:30 pm.

Who: 5-7 Year Olds as of August 1, 2020

Where: York Ballpark Complex

Fee: $30.00, includes a jersey

Registration Deadline: Sunday, June 14

Late Fee: $5.00 after assigned registration deadline, no registration accepted after June 16

*Coaches are always needed to make T-Ball a success. If you are interested in becoming a coach, please contact the Community Center at 402-363-2630. There will be a coaches meeting on June 16th at 5:15 pm at the Community Center meeting room.

YOUTH SUMMER CAMP

Each individual week of camp is $30/week

Week 1 – Best Friends Week

Bring a friend, or create a new friendship during the 2020 summer camp! The first week is always so much fun, so let’s focus on building friendships as we kick off summer. The week will focus on team building and teamwork with partner activities like egg tosses, friendship bracelets, three-legged races, trust walks, and lots of fun duo activities.

Week 2 – Explore the Outdoors

Do you want to feed turtles, go fishing, hold a snake, make s’mores, and pitch a tent? This week of Camp will be all that and more with the help of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Nebraska’s Natural Resources Districts, and UNL – Herpetology. It is time to remove technology and embrace the wilderness around York!

When: June 8-12

Week 3 – Winter Wonderland

Goodbye Summer, Hello Winter! Let’s celebrate winter when we can get outside and play. We will turn the sled hill into a water slide, eat snow cones, make snow ice-cream, participate in winter themed activities, and construct crafts.

When: June 15-19

Week 4 – Tacky Tourist

Let’s explore York with a tourist’s eye for the hidden treasures that we take for granted each day. Each child will receive a disposable camera and a fanny pack as we hit the York Municipal Airport (transportation provided by York Public Schools), streets of downtown, and York College. This is sure to be a trip of a lifetime!

Week 5 – Calling all DIY’ers

YPR is teaming up with UNL-extension for a week of craft making and color running. Projects completed during this week can be entered into the York County Fair for judging! We will finish the week with a celebratory Color Run, so be sure to wear white on Thursday.

Week 6 – York’s Got Talent

Drum roll pleeeeeaaase…show us your talents on this week’s episode of York’s Got Talent! We are searching for dancers, jugglers, singers, and all other talents of York’s youth. Get your tickets now for the talent finale on Thursday at 4 pm; it is a show you won’t want to miss.

Week 7 – This Way to the Beach

Grab your flip flops, sunscreen, and towels as we head to the beach! We will have a sand castle building contest, hunt for seashells, and learn how to scuba dive. We may not be close to the ocean but that won’t stop us from having fun in the sun.

Week 8 – Going for the Gold

Do you have what it takes to win an Olympic medal? Become an Olympic athlete during this week of Summer Camp! The 2020 Summer Olympics will be held in Tokyo, so let’s train and compete like Olympians in archery, baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, canoeing, diving, football, golf, karate, skateboarding, swimming, table tennis, tennis, water polo, wrestling, and volleyball.

When: July 20-24

Week 9 – Cirque de Summer Camp

Help us turn the City Auditorium into a Big Top for a week of circus events. Magicians and Strong Camper Competitions will be the headlining acts with assisting acts of balloon modelling, carnival snacks, face painting, and ping pong and ring toss that will keep the week entertaining. Here’s to a week of “clowning” around!

Water Babies

This program is for children 6 months to 4 years of age and their parents. It will build swimming readiness by emphasizing fun and safety in the water. Swim diapers must be used unless potty trained. Two class times are available; please indicate which class you would prefer on the registration form.

When: Monday-Friday, June 1-5

Time: 6:00-6:30 pm & 6:30-7:00 pm

Who: 6 Months-4 Years Old

Ready, Set, Rally

Ready, Set, Rally is a 10 and under tennis league that teaches the fundamentals of tennis at a pace where the kids will develop a passion for the game. It makes tennis extra fun with the use of age-appropriate rackets, balls and court size. Everything is slowed down and sized down, which makes the game easier and exciting for the kids to learn!

Art in the Park

Let your creative mind paint! Come enjoy an art class in the park taught by Angie Schroetlin while she walks you through your painting step-by-step. Everything will be provided, so all you have to do is show up!

Artistic Me!

Hometown Heroes

Come get to know your hometown heroes as we bring in the men and women from our community who serve us including police, fire, military, and doctors. Each day we will learn about what they do for us and how we can say thank you to them.

Soaring High

Take advantage of the windy Nebraska weather by flying a kite! Mincks Park is a perfect place to let the kites soar into the wind. YPR will have kites on hand to paint the sky with color.

Beach Party

The YPR Department can’t take you on a trip to the beach, but we will bring the beach to you! We will be playing water limbo, having a water balloon fight, running through sprinklers, and more. Bring your own towels; there is fun to be had by all!

Tethered Hot Air Balloon Rides

Baker’s Dozen

Tot Time

Tot Time is designed around basic motor skills: coloring, matching colors, shapes, balance, coordination, and following direction. This program would be an excellent practice of all skills as your child enters pre-school.

Soggie Doggie Day

Let your dog have a chance to enjoy the FAC like you did all summer! This day will be reserved just for your four-legged friends. Your dog will get to enjoy swimming in the pool before it is drained for the summer.

Time: 4:30-6:00 pm

Fee: $5.00/Dog

*Open to all dogs that can swim and are compatible with other dogs. Dogs must be leashed when not in the water. All dogs must have current vaccinations. Warning: FAC has slotted gutter grates that may be hazardous to dog’s feet when exiting pool. Dogs should exit from the zero-depth area. People are not allowed to swim; they can be in the water only to attend to their dog.

Bike at Night

Enjoy the well-lit trails of York at night this year as a part of Yorkfest! This event will start at the Blackburn Avenue entrance and go all the way through to Harrison Park. Stop along the way at stations put on by different organizations from around the community. This is a great way to get the family out and see the community in a different light. Come and go at any time!
