Youth Programs

Bike at Nite
  • Enjoy the well-lit trails of York at night this year as part of Yorkfest! This event will start at the Blackburn Ave. entrance and go all the way through Harrison Park. Stop along the way at stations put on by different organizations from the York community. Come and go at anytime, we will be there until dark. This is a great way to get the family out and see the community in a different light.

Spy Kids

CALLING ALL KID DETECTIVES: Your expertise is needed in our quest to solve mysteries! We will be unraveling riddles, discovering clues, investigating evidence, and interrogating witnesses all in a search to find the culprit! We need your help!

Haunt at the Holthus

YPR will be joining the Holthus Convention Center crew for Haunt at the Holthus again this year! Children 6th grade and younger will spend the afternoon trick-or-treating, decorating pumpkins, playing Halloween-themed games led by YPR, and much more! Local businesses will be handing out the goodies throughout the ballroom maze. The monetary donations and food items from admission will be passed on to Blue Valley Community Action York County Food Pantry.

Candy Cane Hunt & Cookie Decorating

YPR will be teaming up with York Area Young Professionals again this year to provide a morning of holiday fun! YPR will hide candy canes throughout East Hill Park where we welcome you to come hunt for candy canes and try to collect as many as possible! After that, we will head over to York College’s Sack Hall to decorate cookies, provided by York Area Young Professionals. The hunt will begin at 9:00am on Saturday, December 14, followed directly by cookie decorating!

Polar Bear Plunge Pool Party

Water Babies

This program is for children 6 months to 4 years of age and their parents. It will build swimming readiness by emphasizing fun and safety in the water. Swim diapers must be used unless potty trained.

Float for Life

This is a class designed for infants to learn how to survival float if they were to ever fall into water when no one else is around. Drowning is the #2 cause of death in infants only second to car accidents. Our trained staff wants every child to know how to self-rescue if the situation ever came to it.

When: Tuesdays & Thursdays in February (4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 27)

YPR Winter Swim Lessons

 Level Descriptions

Beginner–
Participants will learn water safety and basic swimming fundamentals.  Upon completion, participants will be able to blow bubbles, bob, front and back float with assistance and enter and exit the water. 
Primary-
Participants will continue to learn and begin to practice water safety while building on previous skills learned.  Upon completion, participants will be able to submerge whole body, front and back glide with assistance and have knowledge of the kicks and arm motions. 
Secondary-
Participants will practice water safety while continuing to improve skills learned in the Primary.  Upon completion, participants will be able to front and back crawl, jump into chest deep water and front and back glide, and continue to learn the elementary backstroke and breast stroke. 
Advanced-
Participants will be taking their skills to deeper water and practicing water safety at a higher level.  Upon completion, participants will be able to tread water for 30 seconds, jump into deeper water, front crawl with head in the water and dive.  Participants will also master elementary backstroke, back crawl, and breaststroke.  Advanced participants will be able to go off the diving board. 
Professional-
Participants will be fine tuning the skills that they have learned from the previous levels.  Participants are good swimmers and fill confident around water.  Upon completion, participants will be able dive for objects in the deep end, change direction while swimming the front/back stroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke.  They will learn the butterfly.  They will be able to tread water for an extended period of time.  

Tot-Picasso

Calling all toddlers who are creative and don’t mind getting a little paint, clay, or ink on their hands!  Come create masterpieces with YPR.

Middle School “Lock-In”
