Parent's Night Out - Holiday Edition

Candy Cane Hunt & Cookie Decorating
YPR will be teaming up with York Area Young Professionals again this year to provide a morning of holiday fun! YPR will hide candy canes throughout East Hill Park where we welcome you to come hunt for candy canes and try to collect as many as possible! After that, we will head over to York College’s Sack Hall to decorate cookies, provided by York Area Young Professionals. The hunt will begin at 9:00am on Saturday, December 14, followed directly by cookie decorating!

Polar Bear Plunge Pool Party
It might be cold and snowy outside, but inside the pool is nice and warm! Join us for a polar bear plunge in 85-degree water, which is perfect for a pool party!

*NEW TIMES* Stay warm during the cold winter weather by joining YPR! New this year is that we will entertain your children all day to make it easier on the working parents. We will play games, eat snacks, construct crafts, provide lunch, and don’t forget we will swim in the afternoon! We will even have a New Year’s Party on the last day!

Water Babies
This program is for children 6 months to 4 years of age and their parents. It will build swimming readiness by emphasizing fun and safety in the water. Swim diapers must be used unless potty trained.

Float for Life
This is a class designed for infants to learn how to survival float if they were to ever fall into water when no one else is around. Drowning is the #2 cause of death in infants only second to car accidents. Our trained staff wants every child to know how to self-rescue if the situation ever came to it.
When: Tuesdays & Thursdays in February (4, 6, 11, 13, 18, 20, 25, 27)

The Community Center will be offering public swim lessons. Class size is limited. For lesson descriptions, see below or call the Community Center. For any other questions and registration, contact the Community Center at 402-363-2630.

Level Descriptions
Beginner–
Participants will learn water safety and basic swimming fundamentals. Upon completion, participants will be able to blow bubbles, bob, front and back float with assistance and enter and exit the water.
Primary-
Participants will continue to learn and begin to practice water safety while building on previous skills learned. Upon completion, participants will be able to submerge whole body, front and back glide with assistance and have knowledge of the kicks and arm motions.
Secondary-
Participants will practice water safety while continuing to improve skills learned in the Primary. Upon completion, participants will be able to front and back crawl, jump into chest deep water and front and back glide, and continue to learn the elementary backstroke and breast stroke.
Advanced-
Participants will be taking their skills to deeper water and practicing water safety at a higher level. Upon completion, participants will be able to tread water for 30 seconds, jump into deeper water, front crawl with head in the water and dive. Participants will also master elementary backstroke, back crawl, and breaststroke. Advanced participants will be able to go off the diving board.
Professional-
Participants will be fine tuning the skills that they have learned from the previous levels. Participants are good swimmers and fill confident around water. Upon completion, participants will be able dive for objects in the deep end, change direction while swimming the front/back stroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. They will learn the butterfly. They will be able to tread water for an extended period of time.
Tot-Picasso
Calling all toddlers who are creative and don’t mind getting a little paint, clay, or ink on their hands! Come create masterpieces with YPR.

Middle School “Lock-In”
ATTENTION MIDDLE SCHOOLERS: We want to welcome you to the Community Center for a late-night after-hours party! We will be swimming, eating snacks, and playing video games as well as other games in the gym. This will be a night you do not want to miss!

Pee Wee Sports
Pee Wee Sports is playing games in the gym and learning sports skills! Skills will include dribbling, catching, throwing, and running. Sports may include basketball, volleyball, football, soccer, t-ball, hockey, etc. So much fun in store during Pee Wee Sports!

Rookie All-Stars
Get a jumpstart on becoming an All-Star. This program will focus on a different sport each week, teaching the fundamentals and increasing the awareness of each sport for the kids. The program is set up to have the first hour focused on the fundaments and the last 30 minutes on playing the game.
