Water Babies

This program is for children 6 months to 4 years of age and their parents.  It will build swimming readiness by emphasizing fun and safety in the water.  Swim diapers must be used unless potty trained.  Two class times are available; please indicate which class you’d prefer on registration form.

2019 Summer Swimming Lessons

YPR will be offering public swim lessons in three sessions:  June 3-14, June 17-28 and July 8-19.  All sessions will be:  Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. Class size is limited.  For questions and registration contact the Community Center until the Family Aquatic Center is open. Descriptions of the levels can be found below

Beginner–
Participants will learn water safety and basic swimming fundamentals.  Upon completion, participants will be able to blow bubbles, bob, front and back float with assistance and enter and exit the water. 

Primary-
Participants will continue to learn and begin to practice water safety while building on previous skills learned.  Upon completion, participants will be able to submerge whole body, front and back glide with assistance and have knowledge of the kicks and arm motions. 

Secondary-
Participants will practice water safety while continuing to improve skills learned in the Primary.  Upon completion, participants will be able to front and back crawl, jump into chest deep water and front and back glide, and continue to learn the elementary backstroke and breast stroke. 

Advanced-
Participants will be taking their skills to deeper water and practicing water safety at a higher level.  Upon completion, participants will be able to tread water for 30 seconds, jump into deeper water, front crawl with head in the water and dive.  Participants will also master elementary backstroke, back crawl, and breaststroke.  Advanced participants will be able to go off the diving board. 

Professional-
Participants will be fine tuning the skills that they have learned from the previous levels.  Participants are good swimmers and fill confident around water.  Upon completion, participants will be able dive for objects in the deep end, change direction while swimming the front/back stroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke.  They will learn the butterfly.  They will be able to tread water for an extended period of time.  

Float for Life

This is a class designed for young kids to learn how to survival float if they were to ever fall into water and no one else is around. Our trained staff will teach every child to know how to self-rescue.  This class is FREE to whoever wants to participate!  Session 3 will be in July.

Time: 12:15-12:30pm, 2:50-3:00pm & 5:50-6:00pm

Who:  Infants, Toddlers, Kids – anyone that wants to learn

Parents Night Out

Parents, can’t find a babysitter? Kids, do you enjoy pool parties, pizza, movies and games with friends? Now everybody wins with Parents Night Out!

Midnight Swim

Come to the Family Aquatic Center for a midnight swim!  Swim under the stars, play water games in the dark, and enjoy the perfect summer night.

Father’s Day Special

What a great way to spend time with Daddy.  Dad will get in FREE.  Special concession meal deals are available.

Dive-In Movie

Parks and Recreation will be showing the movie Pirates of the Caribbean on a projector screen at the Family Aquatics Center. Float in the pool as you watch a classic movie as you enjoy popcorn.

FAC Family Fun Night

This night will be full of activities, relays, contests, and games.  Make sure you bring your entire family!

Midnight Swim

Kooky Carnival

Come out to the Family Aquatic Center to enjoy carnival food, lots of fun carnival games and competitions!  Score points to get tickets, then cash your tickets in for prizes!  Don’t miss out on this awesome family event!

Beach Party

The York Parks and Recreation Department can’t take you on a trip to the beach, but we will bring the beach to you! We will be playing water limbo, having a water balloon fight, running through sprinklers and more! Bring your own towels, fun to be had by all!

Soggie Doggie Day

Let your dog have a chance to enjoy the FAC like you did all summer!  This day will be reserved just for your four-legged friends.  Your dog will get to enjoy swimming in the pool before is drained for the summer.

When:  August 25th    

Time: 4:30 - 6pm

Fee:  $4.00 per dog

Inner Tube Water Polo Thursdays

The York Family Aquatic Center will have Water Polo Thursdays from June 6th to July 25th for anyone interested.  Get your teams together and head to the FAC from 6:00-9:00pm.

Sign up for the Fitness Aquatic Challenge at the Family Aquatic Center this summer for a little motivation while you work out during the summer months.  This challenge will involve lap swimming and water walking with a few other water exercises thrown in.  Finishers will receive a t-shirt.

Aqua’cize

The Aqua’cize program gives new meaning to the idea of an invigorating workout. Splashing, stretching, twisting, and even shouting, laughing, hooting and hollering are often heard during this class. Aqua’cize does it all; a safe, challenging, water-based workout that’s cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief.  Class time is Tuesdays 5:30-6:15pm. Classes start May 28.  FAC membership, fitness punch card or day pass required.

Water Aerobics

Move your summer workout to the swimming pool.  Water Aerobics is a great way to tone up your body, develop muscles and improve your health!  Classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-6:15p.m. at the Family Aquatic Center.  Classes will start May 30. FAC membership, fitness punch card or day pass required.

Toddler Time

The FAC zero-depth area is reserved just for toddlers and their parents for playtime! Parents/guardians must be within an arm’s reach at all times.  Toddlers must be 5 or younger.  Swim diapers required if necessary.

Water Walking (May 28-August 2)

Water Walking is the latest exercise craze of the summer!   The pool water will provide the resistance for a great workout!

Adult Lap Swim (May 28 – August 2)

FAC is open for adult lap swim during weekdays.  Swim over your lunch hour for a quick workout.

Thrifty Thursdays (May 30 – July 25)

Each Thursday the FAC will stay open an extra hour, until 9:00pm with a special half price admission discount from 5:00 – 9:00pm.  Come and enjoy the pool on these special nights.

Floaty Fridays (May 31 – August 2)

Each Friday at the FAC, patrons will be able to use floaties.  The FAC will supply a limited amount of inner-tubes, so feel free to bring your own!  In cases where the pool is heavily populated, floaties may have to be removed from the water for safety reasons.
