Lincoln Avenue Water Main Replacement Project

The replacement of a water main that is over 100 years old will begin this summer and is estimated to take 18 months.  The project has been broken into 19 phases in order to lessen the disruption of traffic downtown.  Van Kirk Bros. out of Sutton is the general contractor for the project with an accepted bid of $2.7 million, which came in at approximately $400,000 less than the engineer's estimate.  The contractor plans to begin the project in June, and they will start on the north end of the project near the intersection Lincoln Avenue and 12th Street.  Traffic will be detoured from Lincoln Avenue at different times throughout the project, and you can reference the detour plan HERE.  The detour routes may vary at times, as the contractor will be allowed to work in more than one phase at a time.

The contractor is required to notify property owners/occupants 2 weeks in advance of interruption of service.  Individual service interruptions should be no longer than 1 to 2 hours.  For questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the City Offices at 402-363-2600.

New Water Reclamation Facility

The new Water Reclamation Facility (Wastewater treatment plant) project is estimated to be over 60% complete.  The general contractor on this project, Hawkins Construction, will begin testing of the new facility this summer. In July, City employees will begin training on the operation and maintenance of the new plant.  The new facility will be operational by the end of the year with project closeout scheduled for May of 2019.

North Division Avenue Projects

Sanitary Sewer Extension

The City completed a sanitary sewer extension from Marquis to Hwy 34 along N. Division Avenue in the Fall of 2013.

Following completion of the dirt work by Van Kirks Construction, Constructors Inc. paved the new street from Marquis to Highway 34.  The paving was completed in the fall of 2015.  The new concrete street that replaces the old pothole ridden asphalt street is much wider and includes curb and gutters and storm sewers.  This project was funded using STP funds through Nebraska Department of Roads.

19th Street, Blackburn-Delaware

The realignment of 19th Street from Blackburn to Delaware Avenue began in the fall of 2014 and was completed in the spring of 2015.  The old broken-up asphalt from Blackburn to Delaware Avenue was replaced with concrete and includes curb and gutters.  The intersections at Blackburn and Delaware on 19th street were repaved and realigned to include center medians at the railroad crossings.  This project was designed in order to meet requirements for railroad quiet zones at the crossings on Delaware and Blackburn Avenues.  This project also included sidewalk along the north side of 19th street as well as pedestrian crossings at the intersections.
